ECUATORIAL MONUMENTS TOUR

(3hours daily except Monday)

This is your chance to be in two places at once! Straddle the line and you are in the both the Northem and Souththern hemispheres. Or stand directly on Equator and you are nowhere........ latitude 0. The Equator rial monument marks  the spot where an 18th  century French scientific expedition established the exact position of equator.

Visit the monument and its ethnographic museum. Visitors are reguarded with a certificate for having crossing the equator.

OTAVALO MARKET  

(1 Day, any Day from Quito including lunch).

The tour goes north, via the Panamerican highway, to cross the equatorial line at Cayambe, with a stop at Calderón, where  the famous “bread dolls” are made. Visit Peguche, where the  Otavalo Indians actually do their weaving , and to San Antonio de Ibarra, the woodcarving center. After lunch return to Quito.

CUENCA TWO – DAYS TOUR

 

(2 Days / 1 night, any day from Quito or Guayaquil, includes transfers, accommodation and meals. Air tickets not included.)  

Experience Cuenca in one fast, easy to arrange program. After a spectacular early morning flight across the Andes, check  into the hotel and prepare for a quick  adventure in and  about  the city  including  visits to Baños and to the San Joaquin basket – waving centers. Enjoy dinner at your hotel and quiet evening in Colonial Cuenca.

Return to Quito or Guayaquil in next day.

We leave form Quito to the southern of the country, in the route we can see different towns such as TAMBILLO, ALOAG, MACHACHI (mineral waters, cattle raising production), LATACUNGA city is located  at the slope of Cotopaxi volcano famous because of their  typical diches.

Salcedo is located  a few minutes later where  we will taste the delicious fruit ice creams characteristic to the Ecuadorian Orient and place very known because of its medicinal  waters, we will visit the zoo, “El pailon del diablo and do walk to Virgen of Agua Santa. After the HOSTERIA MONTE SELVA, where we  will be able to enjoy their  services such as: swimming pool sauna Turk, Jacuzzi, and recreational areas.

After we will enjoy knowing The Agua Santa Church. Return to Quito.

MINDO  

AN ECCOUNTER WITH NATURE

MINDO CLOUD FOREST
(1 Day, daily form Quito. Includes lunch).

After an early departure from Quito, travel northwest over the skirts of mount Pichincha, enjoying  spectacular scenery. The  different life zones through which you’ll pass range form 10,498 to 4,593 feet ( 3,200 to 1,400 meters) above the sea level and hold great examples of flora  and fauna, with birds as the main attraction.

On route we’ll make  some stops to point out special features. By mid morning, arrive  at the protected forest of Mindo Nambillo for an introduction to the mysteries of the cloud forest. A picnic  lunch allows you to spend more time in the forest. Return to Quito in the afternoon, arriving at dusk.

MINDO CLOUD FOREST

(2 Days / 1 night, any day. Includes accommodation and meals).

DAY 1:  Same as MINDO one day plus a late afternoon arrival to the Mindo Garden Lodge Accommodation, welcome cocktail and overnight.

DAY 2: After an early breakfast, stroll thought the extraordinary wonders of the cloud forest. Spend a full day in the protected forest, discovering hidden  waterfalls and pristine ecosystems.

Enjoy nature and bird watching: there are over 360 species of birds, including cock of the roch, andean toucan, toucan barbet, and torrent  duck.

Lunch and time for paching for the return trip. Late afternoon arrival Quito.

WONDERS OF MACHALILLA NATIONAL PARK
SMALL GALAPAGOS

(4 days/3 nights, Wednesday from Quito or guayaquil. Accommodation and all meals included.)

DAY 1.- After arrival in Manta visit Montecristi, where the finest panamá hats are made. Drive the coastal range  to Puerto López. Visitors from Guayaquil. May join and end the program at this locality.

After lunch, afternoon visit to lovesly LOS FRAILES Beach. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 2.- overland drive to the cloud forest of Ayampe, for an hour-long nature hike studding flora an d fauna. Continue to the Salango Archeological Museum, housing a collection of pre-Columbian  pieces from Machalilla and Chorrera cultures, about 1.500 to 500 BC: Return to the seashore for a stroll to see local crafts and observe how boats of the region are built.

After lunch, relax at Punta Piqueros beach before a pleasant evening at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.


DAY 3.- Early departure from Puerto López for a 28- mile cruise on chartered boat to la Plata Island (from June to the end of November).

See humpback whales cavorting near your boat) Introductory briefing and snack. Upon arrival, wet landing Bahia Drake and climb to reach the island’s plateau. The trek toward Punta Machete to observe masked an blue – footed boobies, and seasonally, albatross sea lions. During the walk a naturalist guide will brief you on regional archaeology and natural history.

See flocks of red- billed tropics birds, red-footed bobbies, and  a large colony of frigate birds. Box lunch on board. Enjoy swimming and snorkeling before returning to the mainland. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4.- Visit the town of Agua Blanca, with ruins from the Manteño culture, active between 500 Ad and the Spanish conquest. This was one of the most advanced civilizations of its time in the Western Hemisphere. Afternoon  visit to the craft town  of La Pila, where artisans copy pre-Columbian artifacts to precision. Transfer to the airport for return flight to Quito, or drive back to Guayaquil. Air tickets or the land portion to/from Guayaquil are not included.

COTOPAXI VOLCANO

 

Drive south along the Pananmerican highway to the base of the Cotopaxi volcano. From there look directly up the magnificent mountain at 19.700 feet (6,005 m. ) the world’s highest active volcano. Perhaps see the Andean Condor flying above the horizon. Cotopaxi was established as an ecological sanctuary with unusual opportunities for nature lovers. A pleasant lunch amidst breath taking panoramic views, before returning to Quito in the late afternoon.

CLIMBING
(3 DAYS OR 2 DAYS) 

The Cotopaxi stands 70 Km. South of Equator line. This perfect cone-shaped active volcano is covered by glaciers that run down to 4,800 mts.

CHIMBORAZO 6.310 M.

The Earth’s closest Point to the Sun

DAY 1.-  Drive from Quito, to Riobamba, and trough the “Chimborazo Reserve” to the refuge. Stay overnight in the refuge lodge.

DAY 2.- Early morning climb to the first peak of Chimborazo “Vintimilla”, following the thielman glacier and then “la Arista”. After this we’ll reach the highest point top of Chimborazo called “Edward Whimper”.  The estimated duration for the climb is seven to eight hours and usually without mayor difficulties, except for the altitude and the unevenness of the terrain. In the afternoon back to the refuge and return to Quito.

For a good acclimatization before climbing these mountains we suggest from 2 to 3 days trekking or climbing smaller mountains like: Guagua and Rucu Pichincha (4.784-4689 masl. 2 days) and or Illiniza Norte(5.116 masl.2 days),etc.

No major difficulties are encountered on the snow covered route leading to the top, as a relatively solid ice bridges cover the crevasses.

The estimated duration for the climb is five to seven hours, where as the descent requires only two hours. When the condition are right it is possible to sky down the mountain most of the way.

PULULAHUA VOLCANOE

CENTER OF THE EARTH (3 Hours)
Drive north towards “La Mitad del Mundo” (The Middle of the World) in the village of San Antonio  de Pichincha, about 22 Km North of Quito. Here we’ll visit the stone trapezoidal monument.

Finally we’ll drive about 4 Km. North of San Antonio to the Pululahua Reserve, where  we can observe the volcanic crater of the extinct Pululahua (300 meters  deep and 4 Km. Across). Return to Quito.
